5 Things Every Seguin Business Should Fix on Their Website Today

Your website doesn't need a complete overhaul. It needs five quick fixes that most business owners can do in about 10 minutes each.

I've audited dozens of local Seguin websites, and I see the same issues over and over. The good news? These aren't complicated problems that require hiring someone. They're simple fixes that make a big difference.

1. Make Sure Your Site Works on Phones

More than half your customers are looking at your website on their phone. If they have to pinch and zoom to read your menu or find your phone number, they're going to call your competitor instead.

How to check: Open your website on your phone. Can you easily read everything? Can you tap the phone number to call? Can you fill out your contact form without the keyboard covering the submit button?

Quick fix: If it's broken on mobile, and you're using a DIY platform like Squarespace or Wix, look for "mobile settings" or a "mobile preview" option. Most modern templates should work on phones automatically, but older sites often don't.

2. Link to Your Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile (that's the box that shows up when someone searches for your business) is probably more important than your website. But most businesses don't link the two together.

How to check: Google your business name and see if your profile shows up. Then check if your website has a direct link to it.

Quick fix: Add a button or link on your homepage that says "See our reviews" or "Find us on Google" and link it to your Google Business Profile URL. Make it obvious.

3. Put Your Contact Info Where People Can Find It

I'm amazed how many local business websites make it hard to find a phone number or address. Your contact information should be visible without hunting for it.

How to check: Can someone see your phone number and address without clicking through multiple pages? Is your address exactly the same as what's on your Google Business Profile?

Quick fix: Put your phone number in the top right corner of every page. Put your address in the footer. Make sure both match what you have on Google exactly — not "downtown Seguin" but "123 N Court St, Seguin, TX 78155."

4. Check How Fast Your Site Loads

If your website takes more than 3 seconds to load, you're losing customers. People in Seguin aren't any more patient than people anywhere else.

How to check: Go to pagespeed.web.dev and enter your website URL. Google will tell you exactly how fast it loads and what's slowing it down.

Quick fix: The most common culprit is huge photos. If you uploaded photos straight from your phone without resizing them, they're probably slowing everything down. Most website platforms have a "compress images" or "optimize images" setting you can turn on.

5. Make Sure You Have That Little Lock Icon

That little lock icon in the address bar (it means your site has SSL/https) isn't just for e-commerce sites. Google ranks sites without it lower in search results, and customers notice when it's missing.

How to check: Look at your website URL. Does it start with "https" and show a lock icon?

Quick fix: If you're using Squarespace, Wix, Shopify, or similar, this should be automatic. If you have an older site or custom setup, you might need to contact whoever hosts your website and ask them to enable SSL. Most hosts do it for free now.

Why These Matter

None of these fixes will transform your business overnight. But together, they remove the little friction points that make people give up and go somewhere else.

A customer searching for "restaurants in Seguin" on their phone should be able to find your hours, see your location, and make a reservation without fighting your website. Make it easy for them, and they'll make it easy for you.

Questions about any of these fixes? Most business owners can handle these themselves, but if you get stuck, ask. I'm always happy to help a fellow Seguin business owner figure out the technical stuff.
