The air in Seguin shifts in October. The heat breaks, the leaves start to turn, and the town fills with activity. All Month Keep an eye on the shop windows along Austin Street for the Scarecrow and Skeleton Contest displays, which run through October 31. It is free to view. The First Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch at 710 N. Austin St. is open from October 3 to 31, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 7 p.m. Also, the Austin Street Market happens every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 414 N. Austin St.
October 1–4 Texas Lutheran University Homecoming kicks off with Lucky Fest on Friday, October 2, from 7 to 10 p.m. at The Seguin Schoolyard, 225 N. Saunders St. Admission is free. On Saturday, October 3, TLU plays Lyon College in football at 4 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. The Guadalupe County Fair Kickoff Weekend runs October 2–4 at the fairgrounds, 950 S. Austin St. Saturday features the CBA State Championship barbecue cook-off and Wild West Rodeo Kids’ Day, with free grounds admission and parking. That same Saturday, First Presbyterian Church holds its 175th Anniversary Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring free water slides, bounce houses, and food trucks, followed by a free family movie at 4 p.m. at the Palace Theatre.
October 8–11 The Guadalupe County Fair and PRCA Rodeo take over the Seguin Events Complex at 950 S. Austin St. Rodeo nights are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Fair Parade marches down Austin Street on Friday, October 9, at 10 a.m. Grounds admission is free on Sunday, October 11. October 10–18 Braune Farms Pumpkin Patch at 1300 Link Rd. is open on weekends October 10–11, 17–18, and 24–25 from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person ages 2 and up, including a hayride, and it is closed if it rains. The Yellow Rose Artisan Market is in Central Park on Sunday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Third Thursday downtown occurs on October 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. around Central Park, with shops and restaurants open until 8 p.m. The Calaveras Cantina Crawl runs Friday, October 16, from 7 to 11 p.m. downtown, visiting The Wayside, 1916, Seguin Brewing, and The Archive. It is free, and Dia de Muertos costumes are encouraged. The Seguin Fall Festival is Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Central Park, featuring a classic car show, kids zone, and pet costume contest, benefiting local volunteer fire departments and first responders. TLU plays Hendrix College in football at 1 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
October 23–25 Pecan Fest is downtown Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Central Park at 201 S. Austin St. Downtown streets close at 6 a.m. Performers include Keen Country Band at 10:30 a.m., the Get Crackin' pecan-cracking contest at noon, Kayla Jane at 12:30 p.m., and Bidi Bidi Banda at 2:30 p.m. Also on October 24, Pecan Fest is at the Big Red Barn, 250 Cordova Rd., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 23rd Wilson Pottery Show is at Sebastopol House, and the Seguin Heritage Museum holds an open house at 114 N. River St. The play Wait Until Dark runs at the Texas Theatre, 425 N. Austin St., Fridays through Sundays from October 23 to November 1. The Saints Alive Cemetery Tour is Sunday, October 25, at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, 201 E. Klein St. Tickets are $20, with a free shuttle from the Seguin Coliseum lot.
October 29–31 Rock the Fright, the Seguin Rotary Halloween bash, starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, at The Seguin Schoolyard. TLU’s Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors opens October 30 at the TLU Studio Theatre. Trunk or Treat is Saturday, October 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Beck and Beck, 603 E. Kingsbury St. It is free.
